Free post-construction cleaning checklist — getting the dust out
Building dust is not normal dust: it is fine, it is abrasive, and it comes back three times. Here is the three-pass method, in order, with what will scratch a brand-new finish.
After a renovation the site looks finished and is not. Plaster and gypsum dust is microscopic enough to stay airborne for hours, so it settles again on everything you have just wiped — which is why a post-construction clean is done in passes, not in one sweep, and always from the ceiling down.
This free checklist is that method: the safety and sequencing decisions first, then the three dust passes, then glass, fittings and floors. It also marks out clearly what is not a DIY job — a site that is still being worked on, rubble and skips, anything above 3 m, and any hazardous material such as asbestos or silica dust. Those need the right people and the right equipment, not a checklist.
